  • Clean environment

Why Run?

You can't complain if you don't vote, and you can't make a difference if you don't try.

On Education Robert Believes:

  • Education is the way to success.
  • We need to increase funding for education, decrease class sizes and attract business to Johnson County .
  • An educated workforce is necessary for a strong economy.
  • A skilled workforce creates a strong middle class.
  • We need to lure talented teachers and invest in benefits for teachers, such as quality, affordable daycare for their children to keep them here.
  • The state needs to continue to support its higher education system with adequate funding.
  • An advanced degree should be attainable at reasonable cost for all qualified students as well as alternative training for those who choose not to pursue higher education.

On Business and the Economy Robert Believes:

  • Johnson County needs to foster business development and diversity for a strong local economy.
  • The next Kansas state senator who represents Overland Park should work hard to attract new businesses to locate their headquarters here, keeping our educated workforce close to home and increasing our property values.
  • Economic growth comes from promoting Kansas City and Overland Park as highly desirable places to live and work, offering companies a talented, educated workforce; a modern, convenient airport; mild climate; excellent cultural amenities; professional sports franchises; an affordable cost of living and quality schools; and a well-maintained infrastructure.

On Health Care Robert Believes:

  • Can a society offer affordable health care to all? Can we afford not to?
  • I believe it is possible if we use our hearts and minds to work across party lines.
  • An affordable health care system would attract business and benefit all areas of society.

On the Environment Robert Believes:

  • We need to increase environmental awareness and responsibility, including recycling programs; creating energy for the 21 st century without pollution; cleaning up our lakes, rivers and streams.
  • The stream by Corporate Woods was ranked as one of the most polluted in Kansas City in 2008. A community should have streams that families can enjoy and that environmentalists can praise.
  • We need to make sure current and future fossil fuel plants are clean and efficient.
  • My opponent supports coal fired plants that will provide energy for Colorado and pollute Kansas .
  • We need to protect our environment for our children.
